Toţi producătorii mari de automobile din Japonia au semnat un parteneriat prin care vor dezvolta noi tehnologii pentru motoarele cu combustie internă, menite să le aducă un avantaj ?n faţa rivalilor din Europa şi SUA.
8 producători de automobile japonezi vor pune laolaltă cei mai buni ingineri pentru a dezvolta motoare mai eficiente. Opt producători de automobile din Japonia vor investi 500 de milioane de yeni ?n dezvoltarea de noi tehnologii pentru motoarele cu combustie internă. Vorbim despre o colaborare istorică dintre Honda, Toyota, Nissan, Subaru, Mitsubishi, Mazda, Daihatsu şi Suzuki, căreia i se vor acorda alţi 500 de milioane de yeni din partea guvernului nipon pentru a fonda o asociaţie de cercetare a motoarelor cu combustie internă, numită AICE. Asociaţia respectivă le va permite producătorilor implicaţi să-şi reducă costurile de dezvoltare pentru diferitele tehnologii folosite de viitoarele lor motorizări, ?n ciuda faptului că se află ?ntr-o rivalitate comercială globală. Producătorii japonezi de automobile implicaţi ?n acest proiect de cercetare vor realiza, cu ajutorul guvernului, colaborări similare cu cele ale jucătorilor importanţi din industria de electronice din Japonia, domeniu ?n care companiile şi-au unit forţele şi au fost sprijinite de guvern pentru a obţine noi tehnologii la costuri rezonabile.

"Cu apariţia hibrizilor benzină-electric şi a maşinilor alimentate cu hidrogen, gama de tehnologii pe care trebuie să o dezvolte un producător este ?n continuă extindere, cu toate că numărul de cercetători implicaţi nu este ?n creştere. Din punct de vedere tehnologic, nu cred că suntem ?n urma europenilor, dar ?n ceea ce priveşte eficienţa cu care noile tehnologii sunt implementate, suntem ?n spatele producătorilor din Europa", explică Keiji Ohtsu, şeful departamentului de cercetare şi dezvoltare de la Honda şi noul şef al AICE.
Printre obiectivele celor de la AICE se numără studierea soluţiilor de tratare a gazelor de evacuare pentru motoarele diesel, ?nbunătăţirea soluţiilor de tratare a gazelor de evacuare prin calatizatoare, ?mbunătăţirea eficienţei termale ale motoarelor cu combustie internă şi dezvoltarea de motoare noi ?n regie proprie ?n baza viitoarelor descoperiri. Japonezii vor să ducă randamentul termic al motoarelor cu ardere internă aproape la 50 de procente, valoare de neconceput ?n urmă cu zece sau 15 ani şi semnificativ mai mare dec?t cea actualelor motoare, de 39% pentru unităţile alimentate cu benzină şi de 40% pentru diesel-uri.

"At least for here in the U.S., Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc. (MMNA) is committed to introducing the 2015 model year Lancer Evolution," Mitsubishi's Amanda Savercool told AutoGuide.
Despite the guarantee of one more year, Mitsubishi is still expected to retire the 'Evo' in the near future. The rally-inspired performance car is no longer viewed as a necessary model as the company rebrands itself as an environmentally-conscious automaker focused on electric and hybrid vehicles.
Separate rumors have suggested the name could be revived for a new performance-oriented hybrid model, though it is unlikely to be based on the Renault Megane platform that will be utilized for the next-generation Lancer. A 2+2 coupe, serving as a spiritual successor to the 3000GT, is said to be preferred over another sedan.
It is unclear if Mitsubishi is planning any special features for the 2015 Lancer Evolution X, which is scheduled to begin production in July.

The Germans seem to have been on the upswing in consumer satisfaction surveys, like the established UK-based WhatCar?/JD Power study, with their familiar blend of excellent perceived quality, simple designs that age well and the promise of reliability.
Things may not always hold true for the latter, but the fact that VW Group managed to snag the first three positions in the standings must mean something.
Therefore, the most appreciated cars of 2014, in the UK, are the VW Up!, the VW Golf Plus and the Skoda-badged Yeti crossover.
Making up the rest of the top ten, the other cars are, in order, the Mercedes C-Class, VW Scirocco and Tiguan, Lexus CT200h, Skoda Octavia, Volvo V70/XC70 and (strangely, given its previously bad rep for reliability and durability), the Jaguar XF ? they must have fixed enough of its problems with the facelift to make it better in meaningful ways.
At the bottom end of the tables, counting back from spot 109 to 100, we have the Chevy Spark, Alfa Romeo MiTo, Citroen C3, BMW X1, Ford Ka, Fiat Grande Punto, Citroen C4, Smart ForTwo, Ford Fusion and Citroen C1.

Mitsubishi seeks Electric Division title at Pikes Peak
Mitsubishi plans to tackle the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb again this year, fielding two all-electric racers in the challenge. As the name implies, the Mitsubishi MiEV Evolution III is the automaker's third attempt at the Electric Division title in the United States' second-oldest motorsports event.
The car itself is built on a dedicated tube-frame chassis. A high-capacity battery powers four electric motors, one at each wheel as part of the Mitsubishi in-wheel motor Electric Vehicle system. The company has been developing MiEV technology, first fitted to a Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution, since 2005. Together, the four motors can generate 603 hp, up 67 from last year's MiEV Evolution II.
Additionally, wider tires, a carbon-fiber cowl and wind tunnel-optimized aerodynamics set it apart from last year's model. An improved S-AWC all-wheel-drive system, similar to the unit in the Lancer Evolution, distributes power based on vehicle dynamics.

Mitsubishi seeks Electric Division title at Pikes Peak
Mitsubishi plans to tackle the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb again this year, fielding two all-electric racers in the challenge. As the name implies, the Mitsubishi MiEV Evolution III is the automaker's third attempt at the Electric Division title in the United States' second-oldest motorsports event.
The car itself is built on a dedicated tube-frame chassis. A high-capacity battery powers four electric motors, one at each wheel as part of the Mitsubishi in-wheel motor Electric Vehicle system. The company has been developing MiEV technology, first fitted to a Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution, since 2005. Together, the four motors can generate 603 hp, up 67 from last year's MiEV Evolution II.
Additionally, wider tires, a carbon-fiber cowl and wind tunnel-optimized aerodynamics set it apart from last year's model. An improved S-AWC all-wheel-drive system, similar to the unit in the Lancer Evolution, distributes power based on vehicle dynamics.
