Yes, Mitsubishi made an Evo IX wagon (in Japan) - It's a little tall, but we still want to haul our kids in it

http://autoweek.com/article/wait-theres ... agon-japan

Good news everyone, this Mitsubishi Evo IX wagon is real! It was a special edition only sold in Japan and it would be the coolest thing ever if it wasn't so damn tall. A true Evo wagon, in the vein of the Subaru Forester STI or Cadillac CTS-V wagon to a lesser extent, would be an all-weather monster. And since this came with a six-speed manual, even better.

Mitsu only built 2,500 of them, making this bad boy rarer than hen's teeth. The manual version came with the 290-hp turbo MIVEC engine, but the automatic used an earlier version with a smaller turbo. Still, kick-ass. The earliest versions of the IX wagon were built in 2005, so you only have a short 13-year wait to import one of these suckers.

The one above was spotted by a Reddit user in Singapore.

Would you buy a used electric hybrid car? From the BMW i3, to the Golf GTE and Mitsubishi PHEV, here are ten of the best

All the models featured are petrol-electric hybrid vehicles
We've covered everything from superminis to supercars in our list

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/money/cars/a ... paign=1490

If the government is to be believed, we'll all be driving electric cars by 2040.

So why not start now, or at least start with a hybrid.

They're coming on to the used market in increasing numbers, and some have taken a big hit in depreciation so there are some enticing used buys out there. Here we count down our favourite top ten.

10. Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV

This plug-in hybrid electric vehicle - PHEV - can be plugged in to the wall, as the name suggests, and the 2.0-litre petrol engine also helps charge the battery packs.

You should get just over 30 miles just on electric drive, which isn't bad for such a big SUV.

Running just on the engine, with a flat battery, makes this an expensive mode of transport, but you can charge it fully in five hours.

We found a 2014 PHEV GX3h model with 33,000 miles on the clock for £15,498. Find similar examples here.

When worlds collide: AMG once tuned the Mitsubishi Galant

https://www.motorauthority.com/news/111 ... shi-galant

AMG is well-known as the in-house tuner for Mercedes-Benz. However, it wasn't always that way. Until 1999 AMG used to do its tuning work for any automaker willing to pay. We bet you didn't know that once upon a time the Japanese automaker Mitsubishi was willing to pay for some German tuning. Thus the world got this incredibly obscure 1991 Mitsubishi Galant tuned by AMG.

According to the video above from Pacific Coast Auto, about 500 of the AMG-tuned Galants were built. So, what did AMG do to make the car so special? Many of the upgrades reside under the hood.

Foremost, AMG retuned the stock 4G63 2.0-liter inline-4 engine to rev up to 8,000 rpm and produce 170 horsepower without forced induction. That's just shy of the 195 horsepower in Mitsubishi's own hopped-up Galant VR-4, the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution's forefather, which did employ a turbocharger. Unlike the VR-4, though, this AMG-tuned Galant boasts standard front-wheel drive, and a 5-speed manual transmission handles the shifting duties.

AMG also added VR-4-esque body parts, badges, and a wood-trimmed interior for a dash of luxury. The wheels also look typically German, but very time-appropriate for the 1990s.

The AMG-tuned Galant was only offered in Japan and Pacific Coast Auto is importing this car to the U.S. It will go up for sale with around 62,000 miles on the odometer. While it may not be a coveted VR-4, it will surely make for great conversation at the local cars and coffee gathering.

FUSO eCanter - primul autocamion electric fabricat in serie, livrat clientilor din Europa

http://www.autobook.ro/stiri/fuso-ecant ... uropa.html

Mitsubishi Motors North America Auto Sales December 2017 and Year 2017 Growth

https://www.theautochannel.com/news/201 ... rowth.html

CYPRESS, Calif.--Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc. (MMNA) continued its sales momentum in 2017 posting its fifth consecutive calendar year sales increase. Total 2017 sales were 103,686, an increase of 7.7 percent over 2016, and the first time the brand has surpassed 100,000 vehicles sold since 2007. For the month of December, total sales were 8,501 an increase of 15.1 percent over December 2016.

Mitsubishi's adventurous Outlander Sport posted its best December sales month ever since the launch of the vehicle in 2010 with total December sales of 3,678 up 47.1 percent compared to December 2016. Not far behind, Outlander recorded sales of 3,018 up 22.4 percent over last year. December also marked the start of sales for the much-anticipated Outlander Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV). Featuring a highly efficient 2.0-liter gas engine and two high-performance electric motors, along with Mitsubishi's superior Super All-Wheel Control (S-AWC) system, the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV delivers SUV capabilities and EV fuel economy.

“2017 was a remarkable year for Mitsubishi as we continued our rebuilding effort and posted another year of sales growth. In just five years, Mitsubishi sales have increased nearly 80 percent, and we're doing that with fleet sales that are lower than industry average,” said Don Swearingen, executive vice president and chief operating officer, MMNA. “With the launch of the Outlander PHEV late this past month and the all-new Eclipse Cross hitting showrooms in March, the brand is poised to continue its strong momentum into 2018.”

Mitsubishi bets big on SUVs, crossovers

https://www.leftlanenews.com/mitsubishi ... 99540.html

Forget about the next-generation Lancer.

Mitsubishi won't replace the now-defunct Lancer with another four-door sedan. The plans of a launching a development project with Renault and/or Nissan fell through. Instead, the company is betting big on crossovers and SUVS.

"We are definitely focusing our future on crossovers, for sure. The majority of our sales will be CUVs," Nate Berg, Mitsubishi's senior manager for product planning, told Motor1.

The decision hardly comes as a surprise. Berg pointed out Dodge and Chrysler canceled the Dart and the 200, respectively, and rumors indicate Ford won't redesign the Fusion as planned. It's difficult for a relatively small company like Mitsubishi to make a favorable business case for competing in a segment that's hardly profitable.

The prospect of another Mitsubishi coupe looks grim, too.

"The coupe market is a very small market. We don't see a lot of potential there," Berg said. Fans who want to see a born-again Eclipse will have to settle for the Eclipse Cross (pictured) introduced last year.

The exception to the rule is the tiny Mirage, which will seemingly stick around in the foreseeable future. Insiders indicate Mitsubishi has already started developing a replacement for the current car using components from the Renault parts bin. It's unclear at this point whether the model will be sold in America, however.

Mitsubishi Goes All-In On SUVs In The U.S.

https://www.motor1.com/news/227120/mits ... sovers-us/

Don't expect to see traditional coupes or sedans return any time soon.

Mitsubishi will continue to focus on crossovers and SUVs in the U.S., so don't expect to see traditional cars any time soon, aside from the Mirage. That's simply a reflection of current American car-shopping trends, Mitsubishi Motors North America (MMNA) executives said at a presentation in Detroit.

“We are definitely focusing our future on crossovers, for sure,” said Nate Berg, senior manager for product planning. “The majority of our sales will be CUVs.”

That's not necessarily a surprising move given that sales of traditional cars are falling across all brands, while crossovers and SUVs seem to be on an inexorable increase.

“That C and D segment is just not a profitable segment,” said Don Swearingen, MMNA executive vice president, referring to the segments of cars like the Honda Civic and Honda Accord, respectively. “We're seeing declines even in the Mirage [subcompact] segment.”

Swearingen pointed to the fact that Fiat Chrysler Automobiles canceled its sedans (Dodge Dart and Chrysler 200), as well as to recent reports that the Ford Fusion might not be renewed. He also noted that selling sedans in those classes tends to be expensive in terms of advertising dollars and price incentives.

And as to a two-door car, like the original Eclipse?

“The coupe market is a very small market,” said Berg. “We don't see a lot of potential there.”

Still, Mitsubishi's focus on profitable crossovers has proven to be a solid one so far. The company just reported its fifth straight year of U.S. sales growth, with crossover volume up 15 percent year-over-year in 2017. The company is launching two new crossovers, too: The Outlander PHEV is in dealers now, while the Eclipse Cross will be on sale by March.

“It's a great time to be in the [crossover] segment,” said Swearingen.

Unfortunately, the company's focus on those models means that Mitsubishi is unlikely to make any other major vehicle introductions in the U.S. this year.

“Pretty much these two vehicles are what we're focusing on for 2018,” said Berg.

Mitsubishi eager to prove its potential

http://www.autonews.com/article/2018011 ... 4417563E1A

O'Brien Mitsubishi of Normal is ready to tell a story with the new Outlander PHEV.

The plug-in hybrid crossover is in the Illinois dealership's showroom, where it's hooked to a "tailgate package" of home electronics such as TV and blenders to showcase the capabilities of the brand's latest entry, which is infusing some energy into a lineup longing for fresh products. The store received its first shipment last week, and its president, Ryan Gremore, thinks the active-lifestyle message will hit home.

"I believe the car is going to tell a story about what Mitsubishi is capable of," said Gremore, a member of Mitsubishi's dealer advisory board.

The Japanese brand, now forging ahead as part of the Renault-Nissan- Mitsubishi Alliance, is ready to turn the page on a rough stretch with the help of the Outlander PHEV and Eclipse Cross - a compact, coupelike crossover that will compete against the Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4. The Outlander PHEV began trickling into stores in December, while the Eclipse Cross arrives in March.

But there are some holes in the storyline, dealers say -- product gaps that need to be filled.

On the wish list? A bigger crossover and a pickup for the U.S.

"We build a wonderful small truck that we don't sell in the United States because of the chicken tax, the L200/Triton. We have engineering geniuses building things we need that we can't sell here," said Gremore.

"We need a bigger midsize CUV, bigger than Outlander that has third-row capabilities," he adds. "We get that going, we may start seeing the 200,000 sales come sooner than later."

Mitsubishi sold 103,686 vehicles in the U.S. last year -- the first time it topped 100,000 since 2007 -- up 7.7 percent from a year earlier. In a three-year plan unveiled in October, the automaker said it's looking to hit 130,000 sales a year by the end of that period, with a lift from the Outlander PHEV and Eclipse Cross.

To do that, Mitsubishi will need to get the most from its stores, and it's offering to help underperforming dealers who are willing to stretch to reach their sales targets.

Mitsubishi deploys experts on dealership operations as part of its "cure" program to help them form game plans and improve.

Other dealers may re-evaluate their future with Mitsubishi and decide to sell, said Don Swearingen, COO of Mitsubishi Motors North America.

Mitsubishi is matching its ambitious sales expectations with "more aggressive rewards," Swearingen said, pointing to volume-based "monetary incentives."

"We want everybody in the game," Swearingen told Automotive News. "We put them on notice that we want them to succeed, or we'd like them to find a buyer. We've been very consistent with that."

Kinney Galani, owner of Planet Mitsubishi in Hempstead, N.Y., thinks Mitsubishi's target for his store is unrealistic. He's surrounded by volume players such as Honda and Toyota and says he can't do much better than the 10 to 15 vehicles he sells per month.

Swearingen said he's hearing of customer fervor around the Outlander PHEV that he hasn't heard in years for a Mitsubishi product. Some stores, he said, are selling the vehicles before they arrive on lots.

In a call with dealers, Swearingen said many had a common question: How do I get more Outlander PHEVs?

Swearingen said the vehicle could be a halo for the brand.

When the Eclipse Cross arrives, Mitsubishi thinks it will appeal across generations. Swearingen said the company learned through product clinics that active professionals and empty nesters will be two niches to watch because of the vehicle's styling, safety features and versatility.

The brand is returning to prime-time network TV with the Eclipse Cross for the first time in a decade.

"Digital is great, but the consumer has to know your name to go out there and start researching your product using digital formats," Swearingen said. "We still believe it's very important for us to advertise on television."
